Sunday with the Folks

Proverbs 14:26-27 (NLT) Those who fear the LORD are secure; he will be a place of refuge for their children. Fear of the LORD is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death. Let me always honor you, Lord. Help me be wise enough to avoid evil choices, and this is fearing the You – not a paralysing state based in not knowing Your eternal grace. John @ Logan Christian Fellowship, Waterford West “God-Pleasing Faith” Hebrews 11 Everyone has faith. We have faith in everyday things we are not experts in and do not understand. Sometimes it can be misplaced. Buddhists place faith in Buddha, Muslims in Allah. Most religious people have faith in a set of rules wgmhich somehow qualify them for their desired eternity. Even atheists have faith in their human potential, and their knowledge. Hebrews 11 is a break in the thought of the book. Hebrews basically asserts, “Jesus is better”. The Jews had faith in the Law of Moses. But Jesus’ Truth is that no one can qualify, but the reward of eternity is a gift only God can give, through simple faith in Jesus the promised Saviour. Hebrews 11 teaches this by examples of people who had no knowledge of the Messiah, and yet qualified for “The Hall of Faith” by their unfaltering faith in God. Do you want to be...

Earth's climate crisis ain't necessarily so

WHILE the Gillard government’s climate-change parliamentary committee plots to wreck Australia’s economy with a rigged market to make motoring and electricity unaffordable as soon as the new Greens-infected Senate starts work in July, thoughtful pollies are at last – privately, quietly – beginning to ask the Gershwin question.

Tragic results of Labor's compassion

I am so impressed by the succinct summation of the boat-people debate by journalist, Chris Kenny of The Australian newspaper, that I have republished it here for you, unedited and without commentary…  DJP. AS the nation was shocked by news of the Christmas Island tragedy, Sarah Hanson-Young issued a statement via Twitter. The Australian Greens’ immigration spokeswoman expressed horror at the “terrible tragedy” and said this day was “for expressing sorrow for what has happened, and for providing support and compassion for everyone involved”. A few hours later, while rescue teams would still have been scouring huge seas for survivors, the senator tweeted again: “Sharon Jones at the Gov. [Governor Hindmarsh Hotel, Adelaide] Brilliant!” That moment crystallised for me the core of the problem with those who argue about border protection from a standpoint of moral superiority and self-declared compassion. It is all care, no responsibility. The border-protection issue highlights the difference between the emotional self-aggrandisement of the progressives and the hard-headed pragmatism of the conservatives. It’s the difference between displaying empathy and attempting to solve a problem. The Howard government took hard decisions and deliberately designed them to appear even tougher than they were. This sent an unambiguous message to places where the prospective customers of people-smugglers were gathering: if you attempt an unauthorised arrival you may never get to Australia, and if you do make it into...

Does Labor Always Need To Cheat?

Labor has no upper house to rubber stamp or stop their government’s stupid decisions. They have no legal requirement to be truthful to the remaining house of our elected representatives (a la Gordon Nuttall). And now they want to rort the electoral system, the one remaining hope of holding this government to account for its record of failure and inaction.

The Greens' Assault on Society

I am so tired of Bob Brown and The Greens constantly attacking the fabric of our society. Moral regression is the detail in most of their policies, and labels of extremism hurled at conservatives is their chorus. When will we be able to rest assured that no one is trying to unweave the social fabric woven with family units, the holy definition of the sacrament of marriage, and the absolutely paramount value of all human life in whatever condition we find it? “Traditional” is not always a pejorative term, it can also be synonymous with “proven”.

Incitement to Genocide

For the sake of those who died in the Holocaust he denies,
For the sake of those who would die in the Holocaust he threatens,
For the sake of all who could be victims of future genocides.

Bank fees – out with the old, in with the new!

You schedule a regular payment to someone else’s account on the internet. Zero wages or employee assistance required. The time for transfer comes, and the computer compares your balance to the amount required. The computer, in less than a second, says, “If balance available is less than balance required, then send Transaction Failed electronic message to account holder, else process scheduled transaction.” Again, zero wages or employee assistance required. Clearly, there are no variable overheads incurred by these mammoth corporate citizens, certainly not any justifying a $9 fee as charged by Westpac, or $6 as quoted to me by ANZ.

Can The LNP Lose The Next Election?

It is hard to imagine how the Qld Labor party, with the most unpopular leader in decades, the worst objectively measured performance in infrastructure, health, and borrowings/financial management in the country and living memory, and a pathological ability to spring significant policy surprises on us just weeks after an election, could be re-elected. It is arguably the conservative side’s election to lose, rather than an election that needs to be won. What could upset this apple cart?

Blessing Before Repentance

In a recent Facebook status update, I posed the question, “Which comes first: blessing or repentance?”  The responses I got were varied. My local hardware store owner asked, “Isnt it the chicken or the egg?”  A friend from high school said, “We are always blessed in the eyes of our Lord and Saviour.”  A nutritionist helped with, “Accepting Jesus into your heart – and you are blessed!” I then contributed a revelation I recently received. “Check this out: Luke 5:4-8 (NLT) When he had finished speaking, he [Jesus] said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets, and you will catch many fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, we’ll try again.”  And this time their nets were so full they began to tear!  A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realised what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” BLESSING comes before repentance!!! Oh the endless grace of Jesus Who doesn’t require us to earn His favor, but gives it freely and without qualification. NEVER listen to anyone who tries...

Questions Vs Answers

Let’s face it, how much could God really expect us to get right, from His perspective?! Well, as a percentage, it’s probably less than 1% if we aggregate the collective knowledge of the entire human history. How much can a child know about the realities its parents face? Some things are just beyond comprehension because of where we’re at.
